“That coach is horrible.”
Translation: “I could do a better job.”
“That coach doesn’t know what he is doing.”
Translation: “He isn’t calling the plays that I think he should call.”
Everyone has their own opinions, and the criticism of others is even more intense through lost games and losing seasons. However, only those who have coached can truly understand what it is like to be in that role and to feel the weight of responsibility as they lead their team forward.
This makes sense in marriage roles too- a husband can’t fully understand what it’s like to be a wife, and vice versa, and because of this it is easy to judge one another and begin to think of all the ways that we could do a better job. However, God has given husbands the high and holy calling to love and lead his family: “Each husband is to love and protect his own wife as if she were his very heart, and each wife is to respect her own husband,” Ephesians 5:33 (The Message)
Every family dynamic plays out differently, but at the end of the day, your husband is responsible for your family just as a coach is responsible for his team. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't share our opinions and thoughts in a loving and respectful way, but we honor our husbands when we follow his lead in faith.
Lord, please show us how to pray for our husbands and encourage them in their roles. Help us to champion their leadership even if we don’t understand everything all the time. We ask that You will do something great and mighty in and through our husbands’ lives! Amen!
