God With Us

This past season we did “The Power to Change” video study series in our coaches’ wives small groups. In this study, Matt Chandler presented a concept that stood out to me- that the whole Bible can be condensed into 3 words: “God with Us.”

As we arrive at the end of 2020 and the start of a new year, it is so powerful to realize that God has been, still is and will always be present.

Whatever we have walked through this year, and whatever the future holds, we need Him with us. We need Him to guide us. We need Him to comfort us. But it’s not just about this year, or the seasons to come, it’s about the whole story. His Story.

We are not the writer nor the editor, but we do know the heart of the Author. Although, this year may have felt like a final chapter, it’s His timeline, and we sometimes get lost in the words on a page. However, we need to remember how the story ends.

“...Behold the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21: 3-4)

Our moment on earth is not the final page of the book, and my desire is that we will see the bigger picture- the story from beginning to end, and welcome Him into our lives in a deeper way.

I wanted to share with you some of my favorite lyrics from a song by Chris Rice- “Welcome to Our World.” Jesus coming to us is the reason we celebrate Christmas, and even more importantly- it’s the heart of the gospel.

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking
How we need to hear from God
You've been promised, we've been waiting
Welcome Holy Child
Hope that You don't mind our manger
How I wish we could have known
But long-awaited Holy Stranger
Make Yourself at home
Please make Yourself at home
Bring Your peace into our violence
Bid our hungry souls be filled
Word now breaking Heaven's silence
Welcome to our world
Fragile finger sent to heal us
Tender brow prepared for thorn
Tiny heart whose blood will save us
Unto us is born
So wrap our injured flesh around You
Breathe our air and walk our sod
Rob our sins and make us holy
Perfect Son of God
Welcome to our world

“...And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:20
